When Bill C-68, the gun registry bill, was being debated, opponents said registration of firearms would lead to their eventual confiscation.
Now that is happening. Just before Christmas, owners of certain firearms were informed by letter that their rifles had been reclassified as prohibited weapons in Canada and they must be turned over to police officials.

The 2012 legislative session of the Colorado General Assembly got off to a good start for gun owners. Yesterday, two pro-gun bills were introduced, House Bill 1064 and House Bill 1048. Both NRA-backed bills were assigned to the state House Judiciary Committee for further consideration.

On Tuesday, NRA-backed Senate Bill 301 introduced by state Senator John Bulloch (R-11), was referred to the state Senate Committee on Natural Resources and the Environment. SB 301 would allow Georgians to use lawfully-possessed silencers (also referred to as suppressors) on firearms for hunting.
While silencers/suppressors do not eliminate the sound of a firearm, they do reduce the muzzle report of a firearm much in the same way that a muffler reduces exhaust noise from a car or truck. There are many benefits to silencers/suppressors: (1) they increase accuracy, (2) make shooting more enjoyable by lessening felt recoil and reducing muzzle blast, (3) protect shooters’ hearing and (4) help reduce noise pollution.

On Tuesday, the state Senate Public Safety Committee was expected to vote on two pro-gun bills, SB 313 and SB 404, and one anti-gun resolution, SJR 10. SB 313 failed to be reported by committee by a 2 to 4 vote and SB 404 was withdrawn by the author and was not heard by the committee. Prosecutors who asked a federal court to seal the records in the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol agent as part of their investigation into the “Fast and Furious” operation now say they will ask that some of the documents be made public more than a year after the shooting death.

Rep. Lori Berman, D Delray Beach, and Sen. Maria Sachs, D Delray Beach, are proposing what they deem a “glitch bill,” that would partially unravel existing law by imposing a statewide ban on concealed weapons in both day care centers and government buildings such as city hall.

Legislators are likely to engage in a spirited debate over what kind of bullets may be fired at doves. Last year, in uncharacteristically speedy fashion, lawmakers voted to legalize dove hunting in Iowa.
But Senator Dick Dearden of Des Moines and others are upset with the Iowa Natural Resources Commission’s decision to forbid hunters from using lead shot when firing at doves.
